Based on complaints by fellow passengers, police said Sheikh initially blocked the window view and refused to budge despite requests. When the airhostess intervened, Sheikh allegedly slapped her and then beat up other passengers inside the aircraft.

It was also alleged that Sheikh banged his fist against the cabin wall and got violent. He was restrained by passengers, beaten up and handed to police after the aircraft landed in Delhi.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Airport) J S Deswal said: “We are recording the statements of the passengers. As of now, it appears to be a case of assault. The accused got violent with the airhostess and other passengers. Prima facie, it appears that he had no other intention.”

IndiGo Airlines, in a statement, said: “IndiGo flight 6E 196 from Mumbai to Delhi had an unruly passenger on board. Mid-air, this unruly passenger started screaming and shouting and also physically assaulted an IndiGo crew member. Keeping in mind, the safety of other passengers and crew, the pilot-in-command informed the airport authorities and requested for security personnel on arrival of the flight.”

“The passenger also got violent with other passengers on the flight, and tried to access the forward of the aircraft. With the help of the other passengers, this passenger was secured till the plane landed at the Delhi airport. The passenger was handed over to the CISF,” the statement said.

On flight from Milan, passenger taped to seat

NEW DELHI: A passenger reportedly misbehaved with an airhostess on board a Jet Airways flight (9W141), from Milan to Delhi, on Wednesday, sources said. The flight landed in Delhi at 11.30 am and the passenger was handed over to the CISF.

Airport sources said the passenger asked the airhostess for liquor, but was refused. An argument ensued between the two and the passenger reportedly passenger turned violent.

Sources said the passenger was restrained and secured to his seat with tape. The pilot-in-command informed security agencies at IGI Airport.
