Ludhiana Step taken after worms, cockroaches found in meal.

Taking strict note of the inferior quality of mid-day meals being cooked in the community kitchen, DC Rahul Tiwari, on Wednesday, said that ADC (Development) Dr Rishipal Sidhu will be monitoring the quality of food being cooked. He also said that on daily basis, three teachers will be supervising the cooking of the food and also its quality will be checked by a food inspector of health department before being dispatched.

It needs to be mentioned that a contractor is cooking food for 150 schools within MC limits and is then dispatched to schools on a private transport by the contractor. Two days back, worms, cockroaches were found in the meal of few schools and the DC took serious view of this issue.

He said: “In future if the same mistake happens, we will cancel the contract of the cooking agency. The education department should also make a duty chart of three teachers, who on a daily basis will oversee the cooking procedure.”

Playing hookey

Rahul Tiwari also chaired a meeting of development works in the city on Wednesday and took serious note of all the absentees and said that after show cause notice, they will be explaining their case to him directly.

The absentees included: Executive engineers of rural water supply and works division-1, Public health department, block development officers of Ludhiana- 2 and Pakhowal offices.

In the meeting, Tiwari assessed projects in Narangwal, community health centre in Hathur, Malaud and few other places and asked the concerned officers to increase the pace of development.

He also instructed the executive officers (EOs) of various municipal committees to get street lights repaired. In a separate meeting of health issues, he also instructed the EOs to intensify cleanliness drive and get garbage dumps cleaned on a daily basis.
