Kolkata, November 18 The situation in Lalgarh has remained tense as the tribals continued to stick to their demands. The administration, meanwhile, has started removing the blockade from roads connecting Jhargram with the help of a few tribal leaders. District Magistrate N S Nigam said, “Though some leaders are helping the administration, there is no solution in sight of the crisis. The roads are still blocked and connectivity to Lalgarh has remained cut off for the ten days.”

The administration will repair the road connecting Lalgarh to Midnapore town on Wednesday, he added. Nigam admitted that the public distribution system and health services have been badly affected in the area. The depleting stock of medicine in the Lalgarh hospital has reached an alarming position, he said.

In a related development, employees of the only paper mill in Jhargram met the sub divisional officer asking him to intervene in the crisis. Citing shortage of raw material, the mill had pulled down its shutters on Tuesday. The mill had nearly 650 employees.
