Kolkata NRI businessman Prasun Mukherjee on Tuesday expressed his anger over the state government’s decision to scrap Barasat-Raichak Expressway project.

Speaking to mediapersons after meeting Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Mukherjee said: “The way the state government scrapped the expressway project was arbitrary. An agreement was signed between the state government and our company and it was not proper on the part of the government to scrap the deal in that way.”

Mukherjee’s Bengal Unitech was given the contract of the project along with Salim Group of Indonesia.

During the meeting with the chief minister, Mukherjee also discussed his company’s Mahabharat two-wheeler project proposed to come up at Uluberia in Howrah.

Mukherjee has asked for more 30 acres of land in addition to 65 acres that his company has already been allotted for the motorbike factory.

An official of the state government said all the projects of Salim Group and Bengal Unitech were discussed in the meeting.

Interestingly, a few days ago Mukherjee had sent a letter to Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee offering to build the power plant at Adra in Purulia which she had announced in her Railway budget.
