Pandit Jasraj casts magic spell

Pune "Sangeetmartand" Pandit Jasraj cast his magic spell on the audience in the first session of the fourth day at 56 th Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav. The first session that began at 8 am witnessed performances by Vinayak Torvi on vocal, Pandit Ronu Mujumdar on flute and vocals by Pandit Jasraj.

The day's session began with the performance by Vinayak Torvi with Torvi presenting raga Ramkali, with bandish "Aaj Radhe Tore Badan Pe in vilambit" and "Sagari Rain Ke" in Drut . What won the audience's applause was his presentation of Abhanga- Zala Mahar Pandharinath.

Ronu Mujumdar's performance on flute was accompanied by Ramdas Palsule on tabla. After enthralling the audience with his rendition of raga Mangalbhairav, Mujumdar went on to present the Bhajan-Thumak Chalet Raamchandra that won the audience's hearts.

Beginning with raga Shuddha Sarang with bandish — Jao ji Jao Shyam Chhaliya in Drut, Pandit Jasraj went on to present Shankaracharya's compositions — Om Namo Bhagawate Vasudevaya, Mai Mero and Om Namah Shivaya . For the 20,000 music lovers who were waiting to experience the musical mehfil of ragas by Pandit Jasraj, it was a dream come true. What made the performance special were Panditji's comments on the audiences, co-artistes and Bharat Ratna being given to Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. "Akbar was behind Tansen. But the entire country is with Pandit bhimsen Joshi. Bharat Ratna being given to Pandit Bhimsen Joshi is no doubt good news, but this should have happened long ago," said Pandit Jasraj. He was accompanied by his students along with Mukund Petkar on harmonium and Vijay Ghate on tabla.
