Even after Trinamool Congress supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s claim to remove political intervention from education institutions, party MP Sultan Ahmed ordered a member of the governing body of Milli-Al-Amin Girls’ College to leave a meeting — of which she was the president.
The head of the Urdu department (HOD) of the college was reportedly protesting against the anomalies by the teacher-in-charge of the college.
Zarina Khatoon, HOD of the Urdu department alleged that the governing body meeting was convened without following the West Bengal State Council for Higher Education and Calcutta University rule. “The former members were present in the meeting and the new members of the governing body were not called. When I protested, I was asked by the leader to leave the meeting,” Prof Khatoon claimed, also accusing the secretary of the governing body, Mohammad Jahangir, for pushing her out of the room.
Echoing the same, head of the education department of the college, Parveen Kaur said, “ We have been targeted for voicing against the irregularities of the college. The attendance registers are being tampered with and we have been show-caused unlawfully.” The teachers also stated that earlier they have written to the CU authorities, the governor, Cheif Minister Mamata Banerjee and even to Ahmed about the irregularities of the college management.
However, refuting all allegations, Ahmed said, “I became the president 12 to 14 months ago and the meetings have been held only four or five times. Further, there has been no notification from the higher education council or from the varsity. There have been many complaints against these teachers. They do not take classes regularly and now they are levelling false charges to evade the committee formed to enquire into this matter.”
