Kolkata Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was cornered by Left Front partners over the PTTI issue in the first Cabinet meeting after the dismal performance of the Left Front in the Lok Sabha elections.

PWD Minister Kshiti Goswami raised the issued of the PTTI crisis and said that he himself felt that the crisis is one of the reasons for the debacle of the Left Front. Bhattacharjee assured the council of ministers that he is seriously considering a solution to the problem. School Education Minister Partha De said the problem had cropped up in the tenure of the earlier minister and they are very keen on solving the issue.

Earlier, Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee had supported the PTTI students in their protest. A delegation of students led by Pintu Parui met the School Education Minister Partha De on Thursday on the issue. According to Parui, the minister has agreed to hold an all-party meeting on the issue.

Along with the PTTI crisis, protest by the parents on school fee hike was also discussed in the Cabinet. Goswami also pointed out that although the schools are going for a steep increase in the fees, they are not making any increase in the salary of teachers. “I have spoken to the chief minister. We will also speak to Mamata Banerjee to resolve the problem of fee hike,” said Subir De, state convener of West Bengal Private School Guardians’ Federation.
