Saw blood on terrace lock after Aarushi’s body was found: Witness tells court

Ghaziabad Dr Rajiv Varshney, friend and colleague of dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar who are being tried for the 2008 murder of their teenaged daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, has told a Ghaziabad court that on the morning Aarushi’s body was found, he had seen a bloodstained lock on the terrace door. He said there were blood stains on the stairs leading to the terrace as well.

Appearing as a prosecution witness on Monday, Varshney told the court that Rajesh too went upstairs to the terrace, and returned immediately to the house. On May 17, a day after Aarushi’s body was found, the body of Hemraj was found on the terrace.

“Between 8 and 8.30 in the morning of May 16, 2008, I received a message that Aarushi had been killed. I went to Talwar’s house after that. I saw mediapersons and policemen standing on the ground floor. While climbing the stairs to the house, I mistakenly went up to the terrace, and found the door locked. On the lock of the door, I saw blood stains,” Varshney said.

“I came down and located Talwar’s home where I met Dr Rohit Kochhar and his wife. I told them about the blood on the lock, and went with Dr Kochhar and showed him the blood stains. When we looked carefully, we saw blood stains on the stairs as well,” he said.

Varshney told court that while he and Kochhar were upstairs, a policeman joined them there. “We showed him the spots of blood as well. After that we came back to the house. There were many people there, so we stood outside. I saw Rajesh Talwar go up the stairs. When he returned, he immediately went inside the flat,” Varshney said.

On Friday, during cross-examination of prosecution witness P R Tandon, lawyers for the Talwars had said that the spots of blood on the stairs could have been there while Aarushi’s mattress was being dragged upstairs.

Rarest of rare by Alarmed citizen on 12 Sep 2012

All evidences and all opinions seem to make this case a 'rarest of rare'. Inaction by policemen in the early stages have cause much damage. At least now both suspects should be locked up since not a shred of evidence or doubt is in their favor. Why is one still roaming around?

Another case like bofors by Best Practices on 11 Sep 2012

This is turning into another Case like BOFORS, with no solution in the near Future. I sometimes have a feeling that considering the pace at which this case is moving, the accused will enjoy their full freedom and die a natural death. It is too early to expect a judgement on this.
