Sonia to begin Cong campaign today, Modi may arrive next week for BJP

Shimla With its poll manifesto already out, the Congress is set to go into the full-fledged campaign mode on Monday when Congress chief Sonia Gandhi will address her first poll meeting at Mandi’s historic Paddal Maidan.

The Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections are slated for November 4. Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma, who is party’s campaign incharge, said, “Initially we had proposed the second meeting to be held in Kangra, but that has been rescheduled. Other national leaders, including Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi will also be campaigning in the city. The PM will address a meeting in Una on October 28”.

The BJP, which will release it’s manifesto on Monday, has also submitted a list of 40 star campaigners. “They include L K Advani, Arun Jaitley, Narendra Modi, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Murli Manohar Joshi, Raj Nath Singh, Shiv Raj Singh Chauhan, Raman Singh, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Hema Malani, Ravi Shankar Prashad, Uma Bharti, Navjot Singh Sidhu and Prakash Singh Badal,” BJP National General Secretary J P Nadda said.
