The survey found that the level of Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM), an indicator of accumulated pollutants in the air, was higher at all surveyed locations when compared with 2011. The report said adverse weather conditions might have also played a role in pushing up the air pollution level.
The report said the city had been witnessing adverse meteorological conditions such as decrease in temperature, low wind speed and increase in relative humidity.
The Anand Vihar station of Delhi Pollution Control Committee recorded an RSPM level of 1800 µg/m3 on Diwali night. This dropped to 886 µg/m3 by Wednesday morning.
DPCC’s member secretary Sandeep Mishra said no clear pattern could be identified with regard to rise in pollutants. “The level of sulphur dioxide increased in some areas, while in most others the level of nitrogen dioxide came down. For particulate matter, the minimum level has been lower in some areas as compared to last year while in others the maximum level has come down,” he said.
The maximum noise level was recorded in Lajpat Nagar at 81 decibels, followed by Kamla Nagar at 80 decibels.
