She appealed to all political parties, including the CPM and BJP, and Congress MPs with “conscience” to support her move to oust a government which is taking “anti-people decisions one after the other”.

“Our parliamentary party leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay will bring the no-confidence motion on the first day of Parliament proceeding and Sougata Roy will initiate discussion on the motion,” Mamata announced after a meeting of her party MPs.

However, Mamata did not explain how her party with only 19 MPs in the Lok Sabha will manage to get the support of 50 MPs — essential to bring in the no-confidence motion. “A casual discussion or a resolution cannot topple the government. So such initiatives are not fruitful. If a no-confidence motion is tabled, there will be no chance for the government to backtrack. The UPA II has lost rights to rule for even a single day,” Mamata said, adding that she hoped regional parties, which opposed Manmohan Singh government’s “anti-people decisions” like permitting FDI in multi-brand retail trade, will support the move.

“We have taken a bold decision that a no-confidence motion will be brought in Parliament on the first day of the winter session. The present government has lost moral rights to continue in power. Despite being a minority government, the UPA II reshuffled its ministry and took several anti-people decisions. In protest against anti-people decisions, our MPs abandoned ministerships. This is a fight against corruption and to save people and our motherland. We are not with those who are selling the country and looting wealth of the country,” Mamata said.

When asked if she would speak with regional parties before moving the no-confidence motion, Mamata said: “We are appealing to all political parties, including the CPM and BJP to support us.” To a question on PM’s invitation to SP, BSP to attend dinner ahead of the winter session, Mamata said: “Attending dinner hosted by PM is a courtesy and this does not mean that those joining such programme will back the government.”
