Allahabad A review officer in the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has alleged that her superior had been sexually harassing her for the last few months. A case has been registered in this connection at Civil Lines police station.

The police said investigation in the case is on and evidence is being collected.

According to the police, the woman, posted in Dak and Dispatch Department of UPPSC for the last few months approached the police with complaint against her superior, a section officer, on Friday evening. “The woman alleged that she was being sexually harassed by the accused for the last few months. This included making lewd comments, using foul language and even physical harassment. The complainant further said that the accused would often reach her house and indulge in objectionable activities,” said a police officer. A case under Sections 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of trust), 506 (criminal intimidation), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 354 (outraging modesty) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered, the officer said.

The accused section officer, however, told the police that the lady officer had lodged complaint against him because he had suspended the complainant a couple of days ago “for laxity in duty”.

Following the episode, the accused officer has also reportedly been transferred to another department. Secretary of UPPSC B B Singh could not be contacted despite repeated efforts.

Circle Officer (Civil Lines), Gyanendra Nath Prasad, said: “The issue of suspension has come to our notice. We are talking to the department personnel and officers and collecting evidence.”
