Discarding their political differences, BJP and Congress in this state have joined hands with other groups to float a platform—Sikkim United Democratic Alliance—to fight for political and democratic rights of the Sikkimese.

The alliance, formed in Gangtok on Wednesday, comprises state units of BJP and Congress, the Sikkim Himali Rajya Parishad, Organisation of Sikkimese Unity (OSU) and two local bodies Nepali Bhutia Lepcha (NEBULA) and National Liberation Front, a SUDA release said on Thursday.

K.C. Pradhan, state unit president of BJP, L.S. Limbu, vice President of the Sikkim Pradesh Congress A.D. Subba, president of Sikkim Himali Rajya Parishad, Jigme N Kazi, OSU chief and P.T. Lucksom of NEBULA were elected as members of an ad-hoc committee of SUDA.

Several resolutions were passed at the meeting aimed at protecting the political rights of Sikkimese, Subba, Kazi and Lucksom said in the statement.

Eradicating corruption and ensuring rapid economic development of Sikkim was high on the agenda, the members of the newly formed alliance added.
