Puppet PM trying to finish off BJP: Yashwant

Press Trust of India

Reflecting the current tensions between the BJP and the Congress, former Minister Yashwant Sinha on Saturday called Manmohan Singh a "puppet" Prime minister who is trying to "finish off" the BJP under the dictates of an "Italian", an obvious reference to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

"The UPA government is headed by a ‘shikhandi' who is trying to implement the decision of the Italian to finish off the BJP. We have accepted the challenge. We are ready to fight for 100 years for the national pride and honour of the national flag", he said here.

In his address to the BJP workers on the fourth day of the party-sponsored agitation demanding withdrawal of cases against Uma Bharti, Sinha added: "this ‘shikhandi' Prime Minister wanted the guidance of Atal Behari Vajpayee on the India-Pakistan talks. We went to meet the Prime Minister because the issue is of national interest".

"The same Prime Minister insulted us when the NDA delegation called on him (recently). It's a shameful chapter", he added before courting arrest along with around 1,000 party members from Orissa, jharkhand, the north-eastern region besides some districts of Karnataka.

Earlier, speaking to reporters, Sinha said if the objective of the UPA government is to "crush" the Opposition -- of which "we have the evidence" -- "we will fight every inch to see that the Opposition is relevant in a democracy, and emergency is not reimposed".
