A 20-year-old Mumbai-based actress was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a prostitution racket. Three women, including the actress who claimed to have acted in Bollywood films such as Devdas, Pinjar, Parwane, Dil Ka Rishta and a tele-serial Yakeen currently showing on Doordarshan, have been arrested in a raid by the South District police.

The actress played Manoj Vajpai’s sister in Pinjar. The police said she was working in a couple of music videos, too. She had come to Delhi recently and was working on a contract basis for a woman. Her share was half of what was charged from customers.

A 19-year-old married woman has also been arrested. The police said both the girls worked for another woman, who operated from a Lajpat Nagar house.

In another case, a retired manager of State Trading Corporation, Shiv Ram Gupta, 71, was arrested along with six women for running a prostitution racket. Gupta, who claims to be have done his M.Com and LLB from SRCC, started a massage parlour in his house, said the police.

‘‘His palatial house in Bazar Sita Ram had been converted into small apartments which were used to run this racket,’’ said a police officer.

The police said the arrested girls said a large number of women had initially approached Gupta for jobs, but they later took to prostitution on Gupta’s persuasion.

One of the girls had acted in Punjabi telefilms and organised programmes for kids. In all, 10 people have been arrested in raids conducted by the Crime Branch and the South District police.
