I can’t change how I am: Aamir

Bollywood star Aamir Khan, whose film Fanaa is not being screened in Gujarat due to protests by BJP activists, has said he is neither against the Sardar Sarovar dam project nor the state.

"The BJP is saying I'm against the dam and against Gujarat but I'm not against the dam. What I'm saying is that the people who have been affected by the dam should be rehabilitated," Aamir said yesterday during an interview with the CNN-IBN news channel.

Rubbishing the BJP's charges of being anti-Gujarat, the actor said, "I have nothing against the state of Gujarat. I have only love in my heart for the people of Gujarat and I would like to ask them (that) when I speak in favour of the people of Gujarat who were affected by the Narmada project and about their rehabilitation, was that wrong?

"Given a second chance I would say the same thing again," he said. "There is no need to target me because this is a democracy and in a democracy every person has the right to say what he feels."

Aamir refused to comment on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's role in the protests that led to distributors refusing to screen Fanaa but said, "the BJP which is upset with me at this point of time is an extremely powerful entity and I'm completely aware of that. But the kind of person I am, I would like to do what I believe in and in the process if I get harmed then so be it. "I can't change what I feel. I can't change how I am. I will write to the film association and I am sure they are aware of what is happening and certainly in the coming days I would see what action they are taking," he said.
