Gujarat Urban Development Minister I.K. Jadeja said on Thursday the main accused in the Godhra genocide, Mohammed Hussain Kalota, has been a "Congressman and a protege of a sitting Congress legislator".

Speaking to reporters, Jadeja alleged that Kalota became president of Godhra municipality after dethroning Rajubhai Darjey of BJP "with the help of Congress MLA Rajendra Patel".

Darjey was toppled after moving a no confidence motion with the "help" of Patel on April 22 last year, Jadeja stated.

The minister said another accused Haji Bilal Saje, a staunch Congressman and an accomplice of Kalota in Godhra incident, had also played a leading role to dethrone Darjey.

Reports from Vadodara on Wednesday said that police teams have been sent to Mumbai, Hyderabad and Udaipur to track Haji Bilal.
