The SP is in touch with regional parties which have agreed to form a third front with Yadav as their leader, SP general secretary Ram Asrey Kushwaha said here.
“People have developed a strong dislike for both the BJP and the Congress for their failure to rein in corruption, and now they want a third front to form government,” he said.
“Everybody is looking forward to Yadav, a leader of the farmers, as the prime ministerial candidate,” Kushwaha said.
“The Congress is projecting Rahul (Gandhi) as its PM candidate while the BJP is pushing the name of Modi... I want to ask are they farmers?” he said.
Kushwaha said India would progress only when a farmer becomes the Prime Minister.
“These two (Gandhi and Narendra Modi) cannot be compared with Mulayam Singh.... If there was any farmer leader in this country, it was Chaudhary Charan Singh and after him it is Yadav,” the SP leader said.
“The Samajwadi Party has always supported the Congress to keep communal forces at bay,” he said.
“After the next Lok Sabha elections, it will be an appropriate time for the Congress to repay the debt for the favours we have bestowed on the party,” Kushwaha added.
