"The ministry of Coal, government of India, has conferred the status of mini ratna (category-II) to CMPDI...on May 29, 2009," a company release said.
The Central Coal Limited was the first public sector company in the state to have bagged the status Last year.
The mini ratna status would enhance autonomy and delegation of powers to the profit-making public sector enterprises as a policy objective for making the public sector more efficient and competitive.
Now the CMPDI is entitled to entail self-sufficiency to incur capital expenditure on new projects, modernisation and purchase of equipment.
It can also establish and enter into joint ventures and strategic alliances to obtain technology and its know-how, according to the release.
Established in 1975 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Coal India Limited, the CMPDI provides consulting services to the CIL and its subsidiaries, besides other clients in the areas of coal explorations, mine planning and design and other services.
